Brantôme is about an hours drive away from the house.  It is everything you might imagine a medieval French town to be and it is classed as one of ‘les Plux Beaux Detours’ in France.

Brantome is an attractive town near the northern edge of the Dordogne department.  There is mix of medieval and renaissance architecture to admire.   There is the Benedictine Abbey on the river’s edge is very pretty and  along with the old stone bridge, weir and mill (now hotel and restaurant) all make for a very photogenic scene. Take a trip around the abbey, built by Charlemagne in 769 it is the main historical highlight of the town.  At the back of the abbey there is a troglodyte section including the famous cave of the ‘Last Judgement’.
